There’s a lot you can learn in school. Chemistry. Proper grammar. Heartbreak.
And Maths …whatever the hell that is.

But that’s not where I learned to love advertising. No, I learned to love advertising in the real world. And by that, I mean using up the hours on my dad’s AOL free trial CDs because we didn’t have cable. It was there, in AOL’s chatrooms that I learned how to navigate early online communities (Emo Chat friends, where did you go?)

I started putting my Social Media Skills to use after high school following a stint as a bassist in a generic 2000s pop punk band. As I realized I wanted to move on with my life, a family friend recommended going into advertising. After doing a bit of research, my appetite for wit and well-crafted copy led me to consume and dissect ad campaigns, and eventually, create them alongside stellar teams in some of the most lauded agencies. And let me tell you, this experience is much better than the sodium overdose I got eating canned food in a random Nevada WalMart’s parking lot while on tour.

Working in social media has provided an unexpected path for me to continue nurturing my creative self, as I continue to grow client-side social teams, including organic social, influencer and paid social. As a strategic leader, I’ve learned how to craft compelling stories, build brand narratives, and advocate for consumers as human beings. My career has led me to create award winning social campaigns for a broad spectrum of clients, including T-Mobile, Visible Wireless, Adobe, Mars Candy, IAMS and good ole’ Anhauser-Busch, and small business like a Dog Hotel in Jackson Hole.

In my 30s, I’ve decided to make my Jewish Mother very proud by pursuing my B.S. in Strategic Communication at University of Colorado, Boulder to learn even more about advertising. Turns out, there’s a lot you can learn in school about advertising too… just don’t ask me anything about maths.
